Busy girl...
Our little sweetie pie...
Can't believe it, but she's 11 months old.
Actually, she is exactly one week away from being a year old.
Makayla is such a sweet girl
with so much spirit
and personality.
We have seen a few fits already,
but they usually don't last long.
It is giving us an idea of how much
she understands now.
When she wants something and can't
have it immediately we've had
a few meltdowns that included
flinging her head back and fake crying.
Ha, I thought that stuff didn't start until
the "terrible two" stage.
Guess not!
Makayla still loves watching
her Signing Time DVDs
and has learned two signs,
that she will do randomly
and sometimes on command.
The first is "wash hands"
and the second is "brush teeth."
She has a little pink toothbrush
that we practice with each night.
First I help her brush her six teeth
(four on top and two on bottom)
then hand her the toothbrush
and she "brushes" them.
Too cute!
We do that a few times each night.
We had a two week span
of screaming fits during bath time.
Odd, since she has loved her bath time
for many months now.
Thankfully I can report that
the last two nights have been much better,
with no screaming and actual playing
in the tub again.
She has been going through a bit
of a clingy/mommy phase
so I think that somehow
played into the anti-bath thing.
Makayla is now cruising around
when holding onto things
(which she has been doing for a bit)
but now she will walk around
if you just hold her hands.
She walks on her tip toes
a good bit...
maybe she's training up
those ballerina toes.
Her teacher says she
is getting more brave each
day and has stood a few times
without holding onto anything...
they tell me each day that
she will be walking soon!
She is still a gem
at school almost everyday
and loves her routine.
She still loves her milk
in the bottle that she gets four times a day:
first thing in the morning,
around 11am, 3pm, and before bedtime.
I'm not quite sure how she will take
the switch to whole milk soon,
or thoughts of weaning from the bottle.
I think we might be keeping
at very least the morning and bedtime
bottles for a while longer.
She has been eating a lot more
finger foods in the past month.
Her favorites things lately
are green beans, carrots,
any flavor of baby yogurt,
puffs, peaches, pears,
bananas, oatmeal,
squash, spaghetti,
bread/toast.
She isn't as keen on the purees
anymore, so she gets her
baby oatmeal mixed with banana
or fruit puree in the morning...
school food for lunch,
puffs or cereal for afternoon snack at school,
then fruit and veggies finger foods
for dinner and some yogurt.
She has been a great eater lately
but if/when she doesn't like something
she will quickly spit it out,
and if some food is on her hand
and she doesn't want it there anymore
she will fling her hand wildly in the air
until it comes off
(whether that means it lands on
the highchair tray, floor, wall, etc.)
We were all very sick a month or so ago,
but ever since she recovered
Makayla has been back to her laughing,
happy, busy self.
She has been sleeping great.
Usually only takes one nap at daycare,
but two at home on the weekends.
She goes to bed around 7:00p
and usually sleeps 12 hours, give or take.
Definitely loving that schedule!
We are just so thankful
for the wonderful teachers
Makayla has had so far.
She just recently moved up
to Nursery 3 at school,
and loves Ms. Angela.
It took a few days of adjustment,
as she gets very attached to her
teachers, but now they are buddies.
I couldn't be more happy
with the school she is in
and how well they treat her
while we are at work.
They truly love her and
teach her new things everyday!
We are looking forward to her
birthday
party on June 4th.
A chance to celebrate
the wonderful day she was born
and the amazing year
we have survived/enjoyed/loved/been given!
Love you baby girl...
our big 11 month old,
who won't be a baby much longer!!!
