Makayla: 2 months

Miss Makayla is 2 months old today!

Agh...so hard to believe...

We took a trip to the pediatricians office

for her check-up today.

The doctor said she looks great

and seems healthy.

Stats:

weight: 9lbs 5.4oz

height: 21 inches

Here is a quick pic we took while there:

Snuggled in her blankie, with her favorite paci,

and holding mommy's finger...yay!

She got her first immunization today...yuck

We have been pushing them back but she

has to have them to start daycare

at the end of the month, so we couldn't

wait any longer. She was a trooper

but wasn't feeling good this afternoon.

Poor baby...good reason just to hold

her the rest of the day!

Makayla has been alert since day one,

but lately she has been even more so.

We can tell she is looking at us and

her eyes follow when we enter/leave a room.

She likes to watch the ceiling fan and overhead lights.

She also loves to look at the MMC letters

hanging on the wall in the bedroom (that her Aunt Emily

made for her).

She has started smiling more

and making a few "talking" sounds.

We have been working on a little routine

and try to stick to three hour cycles of

eat, activity, sleep

She is usually down for a nap about an hour after she wakes,

but lately has been waking from her nap

 at the 45 minute mark.

I read that is the length of a baby sleep cycle and they have

to learn to put themselves back to sleep. Sometimes

she does and other times she doesn't.

She has learned how to at night though, because

she is doing much better.

We have started doing a bedtime routine.

It currently consists of:

bathtime

lotion

diaper change and pajamas

book, if not too tired yet

swaddle

bottle

snuggle, sing and say prayers

into crib with paci

She is usually drowsy but still awake when

she goes into her crib. She will look around

and play for a bit and then go to sleep.

We have been aiming for crib time by

around 7:15-7:30.

Between 10-11p we give her a "dream feed."

This literally means we pick her up and

give her a bottle while she is sleeping.

She usually sleeps through the feeding

(or almost all of it)

and goes right back to sleep.

Then we pray she will sleep until morning.

It hasn't happened yet, but we are looking forward

to the day it does.

Right now she is averaging one more wake up

to eat between 3-4am,

then she wakes up for the day

around 7-7:30am.

So, I think we are making real progress.

Back to the bedtime routine...

Makayla LOVES her bathtime.

She doesn't like the water too hot,

but loves having cupfuls of water poured

on her stomach, arms and legs.

We use bathtime as our playtime in the evening.

She pumps her arms and kicks her little legs around.

It is so cute!!!

I love giving her a bath each night,

and even though she is tired

I think this is one of our favorite

parts of the day!
