baby bump discussions

So, either I'm showing more obviously
or people are getting brave.
I went out a few minutes ago
to run to the bank and get lunch.
The sweet bank teller asked "When are you due?"
(first time this question has been asked by a stranger).
I told her...
then we talked about which OB I was seeing,
what hospital I would deliver in,
and about her 8mo. and 20mo. old girls.
Then at lunch when I was standing in line
the man in front of me asked "How far along are you?"
(another first time question from a stranger).
He and his friend told me about each of their kids
and one mentioned how sick his wife was each time.
I told him I had a similar first trimester.
So I guess his wife and I kind of bonded somehow...
they wished me well.

Up until today, I've only had people that know me ask questions.
Mostly people at church and they ask
"When are you going to start showing?"
This question does get a bit old after a while
because it makes you start to think something is wrong
and the baby isn't growing because you aren't huge!
Ah!

The funniest conversation to date has been with a little girl at my church.
She's probably around 7 or 8 years old
and was in kids church a few weekends ago
when Brandon and I were teaching it.
After church was over one of the moms brought in a baby Bumbo seat that she said we could borrow. So I was sitting in the classroom holding it and waiting for the other parents to come get their kiddos.
Litle girl: What's that?
Me: A baby seat.
LG: Why do you have it?
Me: Because I'm having a baby.
LG: YOU ARE?
Me: Yes, can you not tell?
LG: (shrug)
Me: Did you think I was just getting fat?
LG: (another shrug)
Me: Thanks...go play...

  1. I would say the good news is that you actually look pregnant :) Although, VERY BRAVE of the gentlemen to ask you how far along you are. I have learned to NOT ask those types of questions unless I have already been informed someone is expecting...haha!

  2. I am the same way. Unless I hear them say they are pregnant I'm not gonna ask.
Maybe next time I should have some fun...look at them blankly and say "How far a long with what?"
Ha! Maybe that is just mean :)
